Camera Wishlist 2010

I used to want a DLSR for my next camera. But owning a DLSR is such a huge investment in time and money. One must study its science to have better grip of its controls and also one must invest in a variety of lens to capture different scenes perfectly. Anyway, if I will take a brush on photography, which is a bit  of the in thing now with the moneyed people, I would focus on Astrophotography since not too many people are doing it and I am a quite a fan of Astronomy (though my knowledge in Astronomy is just  from what I learned from books in elementary school since my elementary teachers either did not like the subject or failed to cover it and from my poorly taught Earth Science subject in high school). Also DLSRs are inconvenient to carry and use in tight situations like parties etc. So for my next camera, I will buy a very smart camera. I now have a bit of a preference for Korean brands because of the Hallyu and my favorite idols endorse them but I may still stick to my illogical brand loyalty (which I have actually broken for a number of times due to practicality, I have bought AMD based machines and non-Nike shoes ). For cameras, it's Canon. The Canon camera  that I want to buy is the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS, which will become available this Mach.

Pros

  • HD and HDMI support
  • stereo sound support
  • widescreen display so there are no blackbars in the LCD when viewing HD
  • H.264 codec
  • 14x zoom with image stabilization, 28mm wide angle
  • smart auto and other smart focus/shutter functions like blink detection, smile detection, motion detection etc
  • low light function
Cons
  • LCD is not vari-angle but I can live with that hopefully
  • HD support is not full HD (the preceding two cons can be filled by the bulkier and pricier SX1, which has a CMOS sensor but no smart auto)
  •  no text mode scene (Has there been a Canon camera that has this mode?)
For the Samsung brand, I want the NX10. It is a hybrid of a DLSR and a compact camera.

Pros
  • CMOS sensor
  • AMOLED display
  • HD and HDMI support
  • support H.264 codec
  • smart auto
  • lens can be changed like good ol' DLSR
  • sensor cleaning system
  • burst mode of 30 fps
  • raw support
  • face detection
  • it's endoresed by Han Hyo Joo!
Cons
  • VGA (not wide) display and it's not vari-angle
  • HD support is not full HD
  • no smart shutter functions
